What to pack for a holiday in Lanzarote

guardilama lanzarote

What you pack for a holiday in Lanzarote will vary depending on the time of year you’re visiting, and the kind of holiday you’re planning. A beach holiday in August will require a different packing list to a hiking holiday in February.

But for our relaxed trip in November, which covered beaches, hikes, sight-seeing, and working, packing was fairly straight-forward. And thanks to the predictable climate on the island, whenever you visit you'll find that much of your Lanzarote packing list will remain the same.

What to pack for the daytime in Lanzarote

T-shirts, shorts, sundresses, and light layers like shirts and kimonos were enough for the warm weather in Lanzarote in November.

For walks you’ll want sensible shoes but comfy trainers will be adequate for all the hikes on the island. Light sports clothes might make your hike feel easier, but casual shorts and T-shirts with Dr Martens or Converse were fine for me.

Sun protection including hats, sunglasses, and cover-ups will be needed in the midday sun, especially in summer.

What to pack for the evening in Lanzarote

Lanzarote is a laid-back island so there’s no need to bring your best outfits (unless you really want to). Sandals, dresses, light trousers, and casual shirts are perfect for dinner and drinks.

It can get windy and was quite cool later into the night so cardigans and light jackets were needed for us in November.

What to pack for the beach in Lanzarote

Swimwear (optional at some beaches!), sandals, hats, cover-ups, and anything else you’d usually bring to the beach is all you need in Lanzarote.

You might want to pack a separate beach bag so your usual day bag doesn’t get filled with sand.

The sun is strong so don’t forget your SPF. And if you spend time in the sea, you’ll be able to see plenty of fish and other ocean life with goggles or a snorkel.

Remember to check whether your accommodation provides beach towels before taking up valuable packing space with your own.

Everything else

  • A European plug adapter and relevant chargers for all your electronics.

  • All toiletries you would use at home, as well as SPF for skin, hair, and face.

  • Entertainment including books, games, and tablets.

  • A water bottle and face mask (still required on public transport and in some shops during our visit).

  • Cash, if you’re using it. We use our Monzo cards and rarely needed cash during our stay – though it can be useful to have in rural areas.

  • Your driving licence and credit card if you’re hiring a car.

  • Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test (depending on your vaccination status/country of travel, as of 2023).

  • Your passport!
