The best beaches in Lanzarote

at the beach in lanzarote

The coast of Lanzarote is packed with stunning beaches. So many, that it would be close to impossible to visit them all in the space of one trip. So to help you whittle down the best and most beautiful, we created this list: the best beaches in Lanzarote (according to us).

Our favourite beaches in Lanzarote

Playa del Papagayo, Lanzarote

Playa de Papagayo

On the south coast of the island, this picturesque beach has fine sands and clear waters. And it's a beautiful place to watch the sunset.

A small bar and restaurant at the top of the cliffs serves good food and beer. There's plenty of free car parking, which makes it an easy place to visit from Playa Blanca. However, this does include a ~5 km off-road drive down bumpy dirt and gravel tracks!

Playa de la Cera, Lanzarote

Playa de la Cera

Another stunning sunset spot is Playa de la Cera. This beach is slightly to the north west side of Playa de Papagayo, and can be accessed by the same dirt road and car park.

Playa de la Cera has a lively vibe and is full of sunbathers and swimmers who stay well into the evening. It's popular all day as it catches the sun right to the last second.

Playa de Famara

Playa de Famara

On the north west coast of Lanzarote is this long, sweeping beach surrounded by volcanic cliffs. Strong winds mean good waves, so it’s a popular spot for surfing. The adjoining town, Famara, has a similarly laid-back vibe. It’s well worth the 40 minute drive from Playa Blanca. And it was nicely busy even on a warm mid-November afternoon.

Playa de la Cera, Lanzarote

Playa Caleta de Congrio

Located over the south side of the cliff from Playa de Papagayo, this beach is larger, quieter, and feels more untouched. It has golden sands and turquoise waters but no facilities.

Playa Caleta de Congrio is more off the beaten track than Playa del Papagayo. Although drivers park in the same spot, you have to walk about 10 minutes through dunes to get to this secluded beach. It's also a nudist beach, but plenty of visitors wear swimwear here too.

charcos de los clicos

by @tomokas

Playa del Charco de los Clicos

It's not exactly one for sunbathing. But this volcanic beach is worth a visit for its unique rock formations, red cliffs, black sand, and green lagoon. If you’re driving up the west coast to El Golfo or Timanfaya, stop for a wander around Charco de los Clicos.
