The best places to eat and drink in Fuerteventura
Our trip to Fuerteventura was our third holiday to the Canary Islands in recent years. And from our experiences in Lanzarote and Gran Canaria, we weren’t expecting to come across any particularly memorable restaurants.
The food in the Canary Islands is good. You’ll find a lot of traditional Spanish dishes, seafood, tapas, and cheeses. And while we had plenty of great dinners out in the other two islands, neither warranted a full blog dedicated to the places we ate. So we were pleasantly surprised to find just how many great bars and restaurants there were to choose from in Fuerteventura.
It’s likely that the surf culture, which also brings with it a more lively music scene than the other Canary Islands, could contribute to the good food options. There are lots of cute cafes, cocktail bars, and music venues. And we noticed more varieties of cuisines in Corralejo than we had in Lanzarote or Gran Canaria.
These were our favourite places to eat in Fuerteventura.
Corralejo and the North
The Secret Garden at Surfescape
The Secret Garden is actually the restaurant attached to Surfescape Hotel in Lajares. But anyone can go there to eat and drink. The food is Asian-inspired, and is some of the freshest and most delicious ingredients we had during our holiday.
Surfescape is about 15 minutes from Caldera Hondo, so we stopped here for lunch after our hike. The hotel is aimed at surfers and has a laid-back boho vibe. with a pool, yoga classes and coworking spaces.
La Bodeguita
We ate at La Bodeguita on our first night in Corralejo. They serve great tapas and good portion sizes for a reasonable price.
Casa Manolo
Casa Manolo in Corralejo is a cute, family-run restaurant that serves good seafood. It’s always busy, and even had a sign in the window most nights saying they were fully booked. So reserve your table in advance to avoid disappointment.
Gilda
We first went to Gilda to have a vermuth after dinner elsewhere, and we came back to try their tapas menu. We ended up waiting about 45 minutes for a table (so book ahead!) but it was well worth it. The range of tapas plates was more diverse than other places that sometimes feel like they all serve the same things. It’s more pinxos-focused and had a busy, cosy vibe that reminded me of some of our favourite places in Bilbao and San Sebastian.
Single Fin
For some of the best burgers in Corralejo, go to Single Fin. Set just back from the waterfront, this small restaurant has a laid-back surfy feel. They also have a full veggie and vegan menu, and serve local beers from the Canary Islands.
13 Bistrot
For great tapas and pasta dishes, head to 13 Bistrot. It’s on one of the livelier restaurant streets in Corralejo so it gets busy. But it has a friendly feel and helpful staff.
Taverna Fogalera
Probably the best meal we had in Corralejo was at Taverna Fogalera. Don’t be put off by the fact that it’s on the seafront. While this area would be considered a low-quality tourist trap in some towns, it’s not the case in Corralejo. You’ll find some great restaurants along this strip. Fogalera serves traditional Italian and seafood dishes, and while it’s not the cheapest place you’ll eat, the quality of the food makes it very good value.
La Sombra
There are only a few restaurants in the small town of Betancuria. Where others serve more traditional Spanish dishes, La Sombra serves burgers, fries, and other casual options. But the best thing about it is the plant-covered courtyard that makes it feel like you’re eating lunch in a jungle. There are plenty of veggie and vegan options, and their smoothies are fresh and delicious.
Buena Suerte
Buena Suerte in Corralejo has a great selection of veggie and vegan dishes. The food we ate here was delicious (gnocchi and risotto) and the restaurant has a more modern and relaxed feel than lots of the more traditional spots in town.
Me Gustas Tu
Polish Canarian fusion might sound like an odd mix, but Me Gustas Tu in Corralejo gets it right. The menu is mostly tapas, featuring Polish dishes like pierogies alongside traditional Canary Island wrinkly potatoes, fried cheeses, and even some Asian-inspired plates. They also have a great cocktail menu at very reasonable prices.
L’Oca Blanca
For a nice Italian dinner that won’t be the cheapest, but could be one of the cosiest and more romantic, go to L’Oca Blanca in Corralejo. The owner is lovely and friendly and the pistachio tiramisu is a must-try.
Olivo Corso
There are so many good places to eat in El Cotillo. But since we only had one afternoon there, we chose Olivo Corso. It serves great tapas and mains, and is on a relaxed street just back from the seafront. The food here is a little more upmarket than other tapas-focused restaurants so it would be a better spot for an evening meal than lunch. Remember to book ahead because it gets busy. And don’t show up hungry – service was slow the day of our visit.
Our favourite bars in Corralejo
Rock Island Bar
This small live music bar has a cosy boho vibe and great live acts every night. Rock Island Bar gets busy but it’s a fun and relaxing spot when you can find a seat.
Sunset Lounge
We visited Sunset Lounge a couple of times because it was so close to our villa. The beach bar is a great place for surfers to meet at the end of their session so it has a very relaxed feel. There is live music almost every night, and the sandy ground makes you feel like you’re still on the beach even when you’re at the bar. You can even take your drinks out to the sea, and even though it’s not in direct view of the sunset, as the name suggests, it’s still a great place to sit and watch the amazing colours in the sky.

Swami
Our favourite cocktail bar in Corralejo was Swami. The comfy wicker chairs face out to sea so you can watch the marina. It has a cute tiki bar feel and the wide selection of delicious cocktails come in huge novelty cups. It’s a great place to stop before or after dinner – or both.
Los Monos Sabios
Los Monos Sabios is one of the most popular cocktail bars in Corralejo. It’s on a busy street full of bars and restaurants so it has a fun and lively feel. You can choose to sit outside, or in the tiki-inspired bar. We only went here once, but the cocktails we had were delicious and reasonably affordable.
